Last night we all went along to the Portrait Gallery to see David Bailey’s Stardust exhibition.
“Many of David Bailey’s portraits have become 20th century icons, so seeing them in the flesh (and in some cases quite a bit of flesh!) was fantastic.
Two series which I didn’t know and which really made an impression on me were his candid and rather intimate family shots, as well as the experimental images he shot on the set of the 1985 film Revolution, in which he sought to mimic how photographs of soldiers in the American Revolutionary War would have looked, had photography existed in those days. For these he took the images, exposed the negatives onto x-ray film and then printed them through water to give the effect of an imperfect lens.”
